My mother, Karmen, is an amazing jewelry artist. She’s been on the cover of Bead and Button Magazine several times for her designs and patterns. She’s also a retired Human Anatomist. I am fascinated with how her love of the human body translates into her jewelry designs. She just has this incredible eye for detail, the way little bits and pieces fit together, how parts work. When I was little, one of my favorite things she would do was run her fingers over my hand and wrist and name all the bones and muscles. It was mesmerizing. And now, her work mesmerizes me!
Earlier this week, she took me to Barefoot Sage (a wonderful spa that only offers foot massage) and she gave me this beautiful, felted pin. I’m totally enamored with the organic shape, the color palette (green is my favorite!), the unusual leaf and pinwheel shaped sequins, the little details. I also love that it’s this fantastic, bizarre little piece of fruit or vegetation…something magical. And, of course, I love that it was made by my mother’s hands. I love my mom. She always inspires me and continues to remind me to look for magic in the world.
Gosh, Rebecca this pin is so lovely and your sentiments about your mother are touching. Thanks for posting something inspirational 🙂
