I’m excited to announce that I’ve been invited to be the Artist in Residence and create the stage installation and give a talk for the upcoming TEDx Concordia University Portland (TEDxCUP) event on March 23, 2013!
TED is a global conference devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, watched by millions of people on the Internet. TEDx programs are local, TED-branded annual events. I am honored to be the third artist TEDxCUP has invited to create a stage installation.
The theme for this year’s event is Velocity and is very fitting with the work I have been creating this past year. I’ve been working in both painting and video, untangling the stories, beliefs and behaviors that aren’t true to myself, the ones that keep me bound and prevent me from gaining momentum in my life. The images to the right and below are what I call “String Drawings.” They are explorations into finding the little cord that binds and untangling the knots.
This will be my largest installation to date and when complete will span about 34 feet wide by 80 inches tall. I’ve yet to create a piece of art this large and I’m really excited about this project! You can read more about me and the upcoming piece in a great article written by TEDxCUP writer, Hunter Brookshier.
I’d also like to thank TEDxCUP for their financial support in the creation of this project and to the Regional Arts & Culture Council for funding a large part of this project through an Artistic Focus Project Grant.
Tickets for the event in Portland, OR go on sale Wednesday, January 30th at 7 AM here: http://bit.ly/WOkj09.
