I was digging around a cabinet today and found this painting of Peas & Carrots, ca. Halloween, 1982. That would have placed me at the corner candy store, Sweeties, on Main Street in Northampton, MA around 4 PM. I would have been a sophomore at Smith College and probably looking for something to paint and something to jack me up for the evening…what better substance than candy.
That quirky candy store was the best! I was SO inspired by this enormous bin of peas and carrots (which tasted like candy corn – my personal favorite) that I went back to my little dorm room in the stairwell of Chapin House and ate and painted Peas & Carrots. Wow. I had a lot of time back then. The only thing that hasn’t changed is that I still overdose on candy corn every Halloween.
mmmm….sounds yum! I’m not a big sweets person, but have to admit to eating candy corn by the handfuls in October.
