Bear with me…this is long! I can't believe how much my little project has evolved since Labor Day 2014 when I decided to start painting postcards of Scotland, a place I want to visit – and will IRL sometime in 2016. These pics are from the last 200 postcards. The top row are images #1 and #100 from #100daysofpostcardstomyself and the second row are images #1 and #100 from #100superviewsinScotland. A year later and I've painted more than 200 postcards of my virtual travels. I've found a creative, savvy and fun loving community on IG. I've made friends, collaborated ideas and sold some of the work – which wasn't the intention of this project but a nice bonus. A sincere and warm thanks to those who have purchased my work. It supports my studio practice and is validating as a working artist. And, I've discovered a love of landscape which is a new development in my repertoire as an artist. I'm thrilled to see the evolution of my work. I've worked in many mediums but never watercolor which is quite challenging. Painting every day has been a great way to learn new skills. I'm eager to see how my skills and style will evolve in this next series of 100. And I'm not done exploring Scotland! I'm still crushing hard on the beautiful landscape and its people. In a few days I will begin a new series of 100 paintings. My friend @bryanrv7 has brainstormed with me in the past on hashtags (check out his new #inspiredbyoutlanderv7 if you're an Outlander fan & #30thingstodoinscotland) and this series will be called #100daysofscottishlandscapes. I'll still follow the format of painting and posting every day. It's a fantastic way to evolve quickly and IG is an amazing tool to help track my progress. This time, however, I'm going to give myself a little flexibility in when I finish a painting and the size. When I started painting postcards last year, they took me anywhere from 10-30 minutes to complete. Now that I've learned different techniques and a style is developing, the postcards take anywhere from 2-3 hours to finish. Continued in comments…
