Back in February, Portland Chiropractic Group commissioned me to paint a mural. It was actually a gift from Dr. Randy Hewitt to his wife, Dr. Elise Hewitt for the holidays. I had full reign of the project which was so much fun. The only requirements were that there was a lot of detail so children could keep busy looking at the wall during treatment. The treatment room is too small for me to capture the entire mural in one shot but here are some pictures of the wall.
I decided on a seasonal mural full of bright colors to match the warm earth tones in the office. There are four trees across a 13′ wall traveling through spring, summer, fall and winter. And, each tree has a child doing something related to the season. Each tree holds an owl…sometimes his eyes are open or closed or one is open. There are lots of birds, butterflies, woodland animals and lovely children.
A sweet spring girl casts seeds for the bird and ground. Squirrel runs up the tree while bird and butterflies wait for blossoms to burst. Summer boy pets a forest fox while watering poppies. Bunny and mouse share a cool glass of lemonade underground.
Summer and Fall children busy with woodland creatures. The hog pig is my favorite. They’re so cool!
Fall boy crunches on a crisp apple in front of plump pumpkins while hog pig snuffles up for a nibble. Bunny and mouse share a hot cup of tea while squirrel collects nuts. Winter girl puts finishing touches on her snowman with squirrel’s help. Owl settles down for winter’s nap as snowflakes fall.
Next week I begin a new mural. Since summer is just around the corner – although you wouldn’t know it yet here in Portland. It’s cold and wet still – the new mural will have a beach theme with bright colors and lots of sea creatures. My favorite!
